Call for Papers

IFCO 2016 European Conference call for papers is now closed. 

We would like to thank everyone for your interest! Those who submitted papers will be notified regarding their acceptance before 30th June. 

If your paper has been accepted, you will need to register for the conference before 31 July 2016 to be eligible to present. If your paper has not been accepted, we still encourage you to attend the conference.  To register please see the registration tab or click here

If you would like to join global fostering community at the next IFCO events, please register your interest for the upcoming IFCO 2017 World Conference that will take place in Malta in November 2017.

The theme of “Pathways: A lifelong understanding of education, trauma, intervention and success” chosen for the IFCO 2016 European Conference invites workshop ideas, plenary topics and attendees who envision foster care, and indeed, all alternative care as the holistic system that IFCO promotes. 

Conference subthemes include but are not limited to: 

  1. Deinstitutionalization 
  2. Ethnicity, marginalisation, refugee children and asylum seekers 
  3. Formal and informal educational outcomes for children in care and care leavers 
  4. Education and training of foster parents and social workers
  5. The role of policy makers, advocates, researchers and others 
  6. Understanding trauma and its effect 
  7. The role of formal and informal intervention with children and youth 
  8. Measuring success 
  9. Partnership, engagement and youth participation

Guidelines for Submission of Papers

  • Papers must be written in English, the official language of the conference.
  • Authors are asked to submit papers using the online submission form found on this page above. No paper submissions will be accepted via mail or fax.
  • Submission of a paper constitutes the commitment of at least one author to register for IFCO 2016 European Conference and to present their work.
  • All authors whose papers have been successfully selected after submission must be valid IFCO members at the time of presenting at IFCO 2016 Conference in Sheffield. To find out more about the membership, please visit http://ifco.info/members-area/become-a-member
  • Late submissions will not be accepted or considered for review.
  • Generally, only one paper submission per submitter will be permitted.
  • The same presenting author cannot be assigned to more than one paper but can be included as co-author on more than one submission.
  • Expenses associated with the preparation, submission and presentation of the paper are the responsibility of the author/presenter.
  • The selection criteria for the papers received include adequacy of the information allowing a sound review, relevance to the themes/topics and depth of information content.
